Debbie Dowie Presents to International Medical Students at Bolton University
Inspiring the Next Generation:
On Friday 12th September, our very own Debbie Dowie, Founder and Chair of Boot Out Breast Cancer, was invited to speak at Bolton University Medical School to a group of international medical students.
Debbie shared the story, mission, and impact of Boot Out Breast Cancer, from its grassroots beginnings in Bolton to raising over a million pounds for equipment for NHS hospitals across the UK. Her presentation highlighted the importance of community leadership, advocacy, and patient-centred initiatives in shaping the future of healthcare.
It was an enlightening and inspiring session, designed to show students that medicine is about more than clinical skills alone; it’s also about compassion, innovation, and working in partnership with the community.
The university reflected on the day with these kind words:
The students also heard from Bolton Hospice, with motivational sessions led by Dr. Jenny Short, Alice Atkinson (Deputy Chief Executive), and Claire Stott (Nursing Associate).
It was a wonderful way to round off the first week of inductions, leaving the students with fresh perspectives on the power of community and healthcare working hand in hand.
At Boot Out Breast Cancer, we are proud to have the opportunity to inspire the next generation of medical professionals, sharing how local efforts can lead to national change.
