Ladies’ Lunch 2024!

Boot Out Breast Cancer's Ladies Lunch 2024

On March 21st, 2024, Rivington Hall Barn held Boot Out’s much-anticipated annual Ladies’ Lunch event, which as usual, was a resounding success.

Approximately 250 guests graced the occasion, creating an atmosphere full of excitement and philanthropic spirit. Together, we achieved an impressive fundraising total of £10,000! We are so grateful to everyone who helped to contribute to this incredible amount raised.

Hosting the afternoon was the incredible Hugh Ferris, who helped to keep spirits lifted throughout the day. The entertainment lineup featured performances by five captivating drag queens, each showcasing their talent effortlessly.

Barb channelled Dolly Parton, Narcissa Nightshade embodied Cher, Chanel O’Conor captivated with Madonna’s hits, Rosie Zinfandel stunned the room as Lady Gaga, and Vin Dicktiv brought Freddie Mercury back to life in a performance that got everyone on their feet, dancing and celebrating.

The event also featured engaging activities such as raffles, tombolas, and games, ensuring a day filled with laughter and togetherness. Stalls filled the venue, offering a variety of merchandise at discounted rates, and helping along the fundraising efforts.

Amidst the entertainment and fundraising activities, the event paused for a poignant moment as Panos Pikoulas, esteemed NHS Breast Surgeon at Bolton Hospital, addressed the audience. His heartfelt speech shed light on the profound impact of Boot Out Breast Cancer on the breast unit at Bolton Hospital, emphasising the pivotal role of awareness in combating this disease. Attendees were not only enlightened but also inspired, reaffirming the significance of their contributions and the broader mission of our organisation.

Please read the below quote from Panos explaining just how impactful these donations are:

Boot Out Breast Cancer’s on-going support and generosity to the imaging department at Royal Bolton Hospital, has had a tremendous impact for both patients and staff. The relationship between the charity and the Trust has helped to improve the quality of care we can provide to our patients and has enriched the working environment for our staff. Their most recent donation to the department was an incredibly generous amount, totalling over £100,000. This huge sum of money has allowed the unit to procure some much-needed medical imaging equipment. The purchase of the ultrasound machine and reporting station will help the department realise its full potential, unlocking clinical capacity for both screening and symptomatic patients alike. The high specification of imaging kit that we have been able to purchase and the auxiliary medical equipment will allow us to provide equitable care for all service users coming to the department. This donation could not have come at a more opportune time for Bolton. With the expansion of our Radiology team, we will soon be able to see more patients, more quickly. By increasing the capacity for both imaging and interventional examinations, we will be better able to support waiting times and improve clinical outcomes through faster diagnosis and treatment. This could not have been possible without all the great work that BOBC do. We are enormously grateful for this donation and want to thank the charity for all their hard work and contribution towards our services.

All proceeds from the event will be directed towards essential equipment for Bolton NHS Hospital, contributing to the remarkable £117,000 already donated by Boot Out Breast Cancer this year alone!

Although Debbie Dowie, the esteemed founder and chair of Boot Out Breast Cancer, was unable to attend, she has expressed immense pride in the team, volunteers, and supporters for their tireless efforts and generosity.

Looking ahead, Boot Out Breast Cancer is pleased to announce the date for next year’s Ladies Lunch, scheduled for April 3rd, 2025. Further details will follow here on our website so keep your eyes peeled!

To conclude, we at Boot Out Breast Cancer extend our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of this year’s Lunch. It is through such collective endeavours that our organisation continues to make meaningful strides in the battle against breast cancer, offering hope and support to those affected.
