Thank You to the Sharad Purnima Garba

A Huge Thank You from Boot Out Breast Cancer!

We are incredibly grateful to Pravin Arjan of Sahil Enterprises and (our own committee member) Sital Raja-Arjan MBE of House of Raja’s, Bolton, for their incredible work in organising the Sharad Purnima Garba 2024! Thanks to the generosity of over 500 amazing attendees, an unbelievable £15,000 was raised for three local charities; us at Boot Out Breast Cancer, Homeless Aid UK and Diwali Basket Brigade.

Each of us will receive an amazing £5,000 to continue the vital work we do in our communities. For us at Boot Out Breast Cancer, this donation means more life-saving breast cancer diagnostic equipment for NHS hospitals, and this money will go to Bolton Breast Unit.

We couldn’t do this without the support of our community. A massive thank you to everyone who attended the Garba, donated, and continues to support us.

Together, we are making a difference!

The Sharad Purnima Garba

At Boot Out Breast Cancer, we were once again excited to be part of the Sharad Purnima Garba, an annual event that unites the community in a celebration of culture, dance, and philanthropy. This event is not just a gathering; it is a heartfelt tribute to Mukesh Arjan, who dreamed of creating a fundraising event that could make a real difference in the lives of others.

Every year Debbie wears her Bollywood finest and represents the charity at this glittery event.

Debbie says, “We are truly grateful to be considered one of the recipients of this amazing event. The sums of money raised are phenomenal and all the money donated goes into purchasing equipment and supplies for the Breast Cancer Unit at Bolton NHS.”

What is Garba?

Garba is a traditional Gujarati dance form that is performed during the festival of Navratri, celebrating the divine feminine. This vibrant dance is characterised by energetic circular movements, clapping, and the use of colourful traditional attire. Garba not only provides an opportunity for joyous expression through music and dance, but it also fosters a sense of community and togetherness.

The Sharad Purnima Garba combines this rich cultural tradition with a mission to raise funds for deserving charities. Participants come together to dance, share laughter, and enjoy an evening filled with entertainment—all while supporting essential causes.

Honouring Mukesh Arjan’s Legacy

Mukesh’s journey with motor neurone disease inspired his family to organise a garba that would honour his spirit and commitment to helping others. Though he faced immense challenges, his desire to raise funds for charity remained unwavering. The inaugural event, held shortly after his passing, raised an incredible £5,000, with half going to the MND Association and the other half to Boot Out Breast Cancer.

Since then, the Sharad Purnima Garba has grown in both attendance and impact, raising nearly £30,000 for various charities over five years. The entire event is run by a team of dedicated volunteers who ensure that every penny raised goes directly to the selected charities. Some of these volunteers include our very own committee member and Vice Chair,Sital Raja-Arjan and her husband Pravin Arjan of Sahil Enterprises. With all costs covered through generous donations of venue space, catering, and decorations, each year’s event is a true community effort.

Thank You for Your Support

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved—volunteers, donors, and attendees—for making the Sharad Purnima Garba a reality and a success each year. Your efforts help us continue our vital work in funding breast cancer diagnostic equipment for NHS hospitals, providing hope and support to those in need.
